Chickens in the Rain

After waiting out Hurricane Tropical Storm Karen all afternoon, the chickens decided enough was enough and headed out into the drizzle to play.  They were so funny that we decided to go out and join them!

And this is what greets us now whenever we go out. Frank comes running fully expecting a treat. Or three.

Chickens in the Rain-3
There was a lot of shaking and fluffing to keep the rain off.
And preening. Got to look nice, right?

We're still not sure whether Heidi's herding instincts are kicking in or if she thinks the girls are 'finger-lickin good'. We keep a close eye on that one.

We’ve learned that Olive has a thing for toenail polish. Watch out for your toes in our yard!
Wondering where Matilda and Henrietta are? They're a little less adventurous and were keeping close to home.

Speaking of these girls, somebody laid their first blue egg last night! It looks so pretty with all of our brown ones. I'll have to show you a picture soon. :)

  1. Great pictures Emily. The girls look really happy and healthy. It’s neat they get to range in the yard. Do they put themselves back in their coop at night?

    1. Thanks Lana! Yes, they demand to be let out into the yard every morning now – the bossy things. They are great about going into the coop at nightfall and we raise the ramp and lock the doors to keep them safe.

  2. Great to see an update on the girls…and I was wondering how Heidi was fitting into this menagerie. It all looks fun!

    1. Hi Ruth! Great to hear from you. Yes, I’ve been a little surprised at how easy and fun it’s been having chickens. I was a little daunted at first but they’ve really been quite an enjoyable addition to the family. Next time I’ll have to get some pics of the boys with them.
